Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec 2026 to turn Bucharest into regional innovation hub

Bucharest will host the largest sustainability and green technology platform in the country as Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec opens at the Romexpo Exhibition Center, positioning the Romanian capital as a regional hub for innovation, investment, and institutional dialogue in sustainable development.

Scheduled to take place from March 3 to 5, 2026, the event organized by Romexpo in partnership with Euroexpo Fairs, will gather public authorities, investors, technology providers, and sustainability experts from across the region and beyond, while also integrating the Urban Smart Expo concept through live demonstrations and discussions on smart cities.

Cross-border cooperation and regional impact

The 2026 edition marks a strategic milestone for Romania, introducing a national premiere in cross-border cooperation with the Republic of Moldova in the fields of environment, energy, and sustainable infrastructure.

The event will provide a collaborative platform for institutions and companies operating within Moldova’s pre-accession process to the European Union, bringing together central and local authorities, business leaders, investors, professional associations, and international experts at a time of rapid regional transformation.

Organizers say the cooperation will open new opportunities for joint infrastructure, water management, environmental, and energy projects across the two neighboring countries.

A living demonstration of tomorrow’s cities

A highlight of the exhibition will be the premiere of "The City of the Future – The Living City Experience". For the first time in Romania, green and smart technologies will not be displayed as individual solutions but integrated into a fully functional urban ecosystem.

Spanning 11 000 square meters, an entire pavilion will simulate a working future city, showcasing interconnected solutions across six core sectors: smart mobility, energy systems, water management, waste solutions, urban lighting, and green spaces. Visitors will experience live demonstrations of technologies designed for real urban deployment.

Asia – Europe innovation bridge

The 2026 event will also establish a strategic Asia – Europe business and innovation axis, strengthening Bucharest’s role as an international technology gateway through the participation of hundreds of global companies and multiple national pavilions from some of the world’s fastest-growing markets.

Platform for investment and implementation

According to Mihai Costris, Executive Director of Romexpo, the event has evolved beyond a traditional trade fair.

"More than an exhibition platform, Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec has become a working instrument for companies, experts, and authorities, focused on practical solutions and long-term partnerships. Our goal is to transform internationally validated ideas into concrete projects adapted to local realities and to support the transition toward efficient, resilient, and competitive communities", he said.

Meanwhile, Camelia Buda, General Manager of Euroexpo Fairs, emphasized the platform’s implementation focus and regional cooperation component.

"Our mission is to connect innovation developers with those who make implementation decisions in communities. The 2026 edition strengthens regional collaboration and integrates global technologies into a functional city of the future, creating a real framework for dialogue and implementation", she said.

Large-scale international participation

Organizers expect participation from over 750 brands across 48 000 square meters of exhibition space, including indoor halls and outdoor demonstration areas. International exhibitors will account for approximately 38% of participation, with five national pavilions and more than 100 companies active in renewable energy technologies alone.

Visitors will be able to explore solutions covering renewable energy generation and storage, waste management systems, water treatment technologies, energy efficiency, digital infrastructure, and smart public services.

Three major exhibition pillars

The event will be structured around three central platforms:

  • Green Energy Expo, focused on renewable energy production, storage systems, electric mobility, and efficiency solutions;
  • Romenvirotec, dedicated to environmental protection technologies, including recycling, sanitation, and water management;
  • Urban Smart Expo, showcasing smart city technologies including mobility, lighting, digital infrastructure, security, and public digital services.

Across three days, more than 120 conferences and panel discussions will be held on six thematic stages, addressing EU regulations, funding access, infrastructure modernization, digitalization, legislative frameworks, and investment opportunities in energy, water, and waste sectors.

Broad professional and public participation

The event is designed primarily for professionals in energy, environment, construction, urban planning, and public administration, as well as investors, developers, architects, entrepreneurs, startups, academia, NGOs, and policymakers. At the same time, homeowners interested in adopting green and smart technologies will also have access to the exhibition.

Institutional and academic partnerships

The exhibition is organized in partnership with Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests and the Department for Sustainable Development. Supporting partners and associations include APPFE, ARSMD, ARC, ARM, ARSC, FADI, FADIDA, PRORECYCLING, and Ecological University of Bucharest.

With sustainability investment accelerating across Eastern Europe, the 2026 edition is expected to position Bucharest as a major meeting point where innovation, policy, and investment converge to shape greener and smarter communities across the region.
