DEHN opens new plant in Romania to meet rising European demand

DEHN, a family-run business based in Neumarkt, Germany, which specialises in lightning protection, surge protection and safety equipment, has started production at a new site in Pitesti, Romania, roughly two hours’ drive north-west of Bucharest. The plant became operational in July 2026, less than a year after ground was first broken there – a timeline the company points to as evidence of how smoothly the project came together.
The move follows an earlier expansion closer to home. In spring 2023, DEHN opened a new production facility at its Muehlhausen site in Germany. That expansion, combined with growing demand from customers across Europe, prompted the company to look for an additional base on the continent – one that could take on a different kind of work than its existing German plants and give it more flexibility in responding to orders from across the region.
That difference in function is central to how the new site fits into DEHN’s operations. The company’s plants in Neumarkt and Muehlhausen are built around high production volumes and heavily automated processes. Pitesti works differently: it is set up for smaller batches of products that call for a substantial amount of manual assembly, particularly surge protective devices. Rather than duplicating existing capacity, the Romanian plant is meant to complement it.
Choosing Romania followed a broader search across Europe for a location that could support this kind of work. According to the company, the country stood out for its infrastructure and for a labour market with a strong pool of trained workers. The Pitesti site is designed to grow into a genuinely multi-functional operation: alongside production and logistics, it will eventually house human resources, marketing, IT and other administrative functions. Once fully staffed, the plant is expected to employ up to 150 people.
