VESS breaks ground on Bulgaria`s first vanadium flow battery plant

On 16 July 2026, Vanadium Energy Storage Systems (VESS) broke ground on Bulgaria’s first automated vanadium flow battery (VFB) manufacturing plant, marking a major step in the country’s clean energy transition. Located in the Zagore-Elenino Industrial Zone in Stara Zagora, the facility will form a key part of HEROS Park, an integrated industrial ecosystem focused on renewable energy technologies.

Covering 6928,7 sq m, the plant will host Bulgaria’s first fully automated production line for vanadium flow battery stacks, a core component of long-duration energy storage systems. The technology is intended to support renewable energy integration, grid stabilisation, industrial facilities, data centres and critical infrastructure. The plant is expected to create more than 120 highly skilled jobs.
