Eastern Europe’s energy transition takes center stage at Intersolar Summit Romania 2026

EnergyEvents • 20.07.2026

The rapid transformation of the solar market in Eastern Europe, and particularly in Romania, will be a major topic at the upcoming edition of Intersolar Summit Romania, taking place on October 13 and 14 at the NORD Events Center in Bucharest and organized by Solar Promotion International.

The specialized event covering solar technologies, energy storage and flexibility will bring together more than 25 expert speakers, over 350 decision-makers and 15 prominent partners to highlight the current opportunities for the sector and initiate a high-level discussion on regulatory challenges. Participants will include project developers, utilities, investors and representatives of relevant institutions.

A regional perspective on global themes

As part of the global discussion on the energy transition, reflected through a series of local events under the umbrella of the established Intersolar brand, this fall´s forum in Bucharest will actively support renewable energy deployment in Eastern Europe and highlight recent market developments in Romania.

The program will draw attention to battery storage solutions and hybrid projects. "Simply adding new capacity is no longer enough. As grid congestion increases and power prices fluctuate, operators and investors are pivoting to integrate solar plants directly with battery storage. These hybrid projects secure long-term investment value and stabilize the energy supply", the organizers commented.

Digitalization and the evolving energy landscape

Highlights will include not only the opportunities created by combining solar power with battery storage facilities, but also the synergies with electric mobility and innovative heating technologies such as heat pumps.

The forum´s agenda will also address the new large-scale consumers that are stimulating the demand for clean energy – data centers, digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence. An important discussion topic at Intersolar Summit Romania 2026 will be the new markets and consumption models emerging as demand for renewable energy and hybrid power plants continues to grow.

The main pillars of the program

The conference will feature a variety of expert panels and sessions on PV integration, co-location strategies, storage optimization and firm power solutions. Leading experts will share insights on topics such as merchant market dynamics, financing models for hybrid assets and the impact of large-scale digital infrastructure, such as data centers and AI, on the regional grid.

The professional audience of Intersolar Summit Romania 2026 will have the opportunity to dive into fundamental topics for the industry, such as:

  • Market Outlook & Regulation;
  • Financing & Bankability;
  • Flexibility & Storage Optimization;
  • Utility-Scale PV, Grid Integration & Co-Location;
  • Operating Strategies for Hybrid Assets (Dispatch & Trading);
  • C&I Solar & Decarbonization;
  • Sector Coupling: Electric Mobility & Heat Pumps as Flexible Loads, etc.

New rules for project financing as the market matures

A notable part of the discussion will be the changes in project financing that are occurring as the market matures and banking institutions increasingly shift their attention from installed capacity to reliable revenue models. The Bucharest Forum will gather valuable lessons from established European markets, with proven approaches that have been successfully implemented in Romania.

"Banks and investors now rarely look at pure installed capacity or simple construction costs. Instead, the focus is on merchant risk, meaning how effectively operators manage the risk of fluctuating market prices. Only those who flexibly secure their revenues via the power market and combine multiple business models receive credit approval", the organizers pointed out.

A central meeting platform for the Eastern European energy sector

The event´s program will provide practical guidance for key players in the energy transition – project developers, investors, financial experts and grid operators, as well as industrial and commercial companies that place decarbonization as a top priority.

As a central platform for the industry´s expert gathering, Intersolar Summit Romania 2026 will combine presentations on current legislation, new business models in flexibility markets (such as dispatch and trading) and exclusive networking opportunities with decision-makers across the entire value chain.
