Turkiye emerges as a rising robotics hub

Turkiye is strengthening its position in the global robotics landscape, driven by growing industrial automation, rising labor costs, and increasing investments in advanced manufacturing technologies. Recent industry data indicates that the country is rapidly expanding its use of industrial robots, particularly in sectors such as automotive, electronics, defense, and consumer goods manufacturing.

According to Anadolu Agency, citing data from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), Turkiye has become the world’s 14th-largest market for industrial robots. The country’s robotics adoption has grown faster than the global average in recent years, reflecting a broader shift toward automation across Turkish industry.

 

Manufacturing drives market growth

The manufacturing sector remains the primary engine of robotics demand in Turkiye. Ken Research estimates the Turkish robotics-in-manufacturing market at approximately USD 1,3 billion, supported by increasing deployment of automation technologies and a strong focus on productivity and operational efficiency. Automotive and electronics manufacturers have emerged as leading adopters of robotic systems, using automation to improve precision, quality, and output.

The research highlights that manufacturers are increasingly turning to robotics to address workforce shortages and rising labor costs while maintaining competitiveness in both domestic and export markets. Government support programs and technological advancements are also contributing to market expansion.

 

Labor market changes fuel automation

Industry executives point to structural changes in the labor market as a key catalyst for robotics adoption. Gursen Torum, Head of ABB Turkiye’s Robotics Division Global Solutions Center, noted that automation is being accelerated by “rising labor costs and shorter investment payback periods”. He also emphasized that robots are now being deployed across a wide range of industries, including automotive, white goods, food production, and healthcare.

Torum further explained that demographic shifts are influencing automation decisions, as younger generations increasingly avoid repetitive and physically demanding jobs. As a result, robotic systems are helping manufacturers fill labor gaps while improving operational consistency.

 

Government policy supports digital transformation

Turkiye’s robotics market is also benefiting from a supportive policy environment. Ken Research points to the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2021 – 2025 as an important framework encouraging the integration of robotics and artificial intelligence into manufacturing processes. The strategy includes measures aimed at increasing industrial competitiveness through financial incentives, research and development support, and workforce training initiatives.

These efforts align with Turkiye’s broader ambition to modernize its industrial base and strengthen its position within global manufacturing supply chains.

 

Articulated robots lead adoption

Among the various categories of industrial robots, articulated robots currently dominate the Turkish market. Their versatility allows manufacturers to deploy them across multiple applications, including welding, assembly, material handling, and quality control. At the same time, SCARA robots are gaining popularity, particularly in electronics and assembly operations where speed and precision are critical.

The market is also witnessing growing interest in collaborative robots, or cobots, which can work safely alongside human employees and offer a flexible solution for small and medium-sized manufacturers seeking to automate selected processes without major infrastructure changes.

 

Strong outlook despite challenges

Although the sector faces obstacles such as high initial investment costs, skills shortages, and regulatory requirements, industry forecasts remain positive. Ken Research identifies opportunities in emerging industries, greater integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning, and the customization of robotics solutions for local manufacturing needs. The report also highlights the potential for Turkish companies to expand robotics-related exports to neighboring markets.

With more than 3500 industrial robots sold in the country during 2024, according to figures cited by Anadolu Agency, Turkiye is increasingly being recognized as one of the most dynamic robotics markets in its region. As manufacturers continue to pursue efficiency, resilience, and global competitiveness, robotics is expected to play an increasingly central role in the country’s industrial transformation.
