Rubber and plastics industry in Romania: ARTECA JILAVA

MachinesIndustrySouth-East European INDUSTRIAL Мarket - issue 4/2014

Arteca Jilava is a privately owned company, situated in the southern part of Bucharest. The company started out more than 70 years ago as a small factory by the name of MIRA manufacturing a small range of rubber products. In 1955 the construction for the Rubber Plant Jilava began. The new production site developed a large range of rubber technical products.

Between 1957 and 1975 the company expanded with new production sections such as: low, medium and high pressure hoses, industrial and v-belts, conveyor belts, metal fittings, gaskets, various articles of rubber flooring like the technical rubber sheets, automotive articles, ebonite articles and military defense products.

After 1990, following several restructuring programs, the production decreased in volume but Arteca continued producing its trade mark products. After the privatization of Arteca, the largest share of the company’s turnover consists of the production and marketing revenues of conveyor belts, hoses and rubber sheets.

Another new trend in the plant development is the modernization of the production capacities and rearranging of the production space in a more efficient placement. Following the restructuring and redesigning of the production spaces, a large part of the old production space was converted into available renting spaces, thus increasing the company’s turnover and developing a new economic activity.
