Phoenix Contact Modular PSIMOS Fiber Optic Transmission System Is a Winner in the World of Automation

NewsSouth-East European INDUSTRIAL Мarket - issue 1/2005

The new modular PSI-MOS fiber optic transmission system has won the Leonard trophy in the control, communication, and automation components category. This prize is awarded annually by the organizers of the "Automation Optimation" trade fair in France for industrial innovations in four categories. The new fiber optic transmission system beat off stiff competition from 25 other nominations.

The jury based its decision on the impressive system openness, the solutions for point-to-point connections using the legendary V.24 (RS-232) interface, and the solutions for the large range of fieldbus systems on offer, e.g., RS-485 2 and 4- wire, INTERBUS, PROFIBUS, CAN, and DeviceNet. The system adapts easily to complex architectures in automated industrial systems and supports line, star, tree, and even redundant structures for particularly high safety requirements. The jury also noted the simplicity of the system, which automatically contacts the cross wiring for data and power supply during startup by snapping onto the EN DIN rail. The quality of the fiber optic connection is monitored during operation and can be assessed at any time using a bar graph. In addition, a switch contact issues an early warning about critical operation at the minimum level of power.
