Microchip introduces timing solution for long-haul optical transmissions

Microchip Technology has unveiled the TimeProvider 4500 v3 grandmaster clock, a new high-accuracy time transfer solution delivering sub-nanosecond precision over 800 kilometers of long-haul optical networks. The system offers a terrestrial alternative to GNSS, addressing growing government requirements for more resilient timing sources to protect critical infrastructure from satellite disruption or interference.

Designed for complementary Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) services, the TP4500 eliminates dependence on GNSS while supporting UTC(k) time from national laboratories. It’s the first grandmaster to meet ITU-T G.8271.1/Y.1366.1 (01/2024) standards, achieving under 5 nanoseconds delay across 800 km, setting a new benchmark for time synchronization accuracy.
