Melexis has announced a cooperation with Atmel to develop technology and products for Near Field Communications (NFC) applications. At the Cartes trade fair, the companies jointly showed an ID card reader and an NFC application, both based on a two-chip solution from Melexis and Atmel. The chip duo consists of an Atmel microcontroller and a RFID/NFC transceiver prototype from Melexis. The latter one will support data rates of up to 848 kbit/s and comply with ISO/IEC standards 14443A/B and 15693 as well as 18092 which refers to the NFC technology. Both partners announced they intend to develop contactless applications for the fast growing RFID reader and NFC markets.
