Ivaylo Ivanov, General Manager, Inter Expo Center Ltd, Official Representative of Messe Frankfurt for Bulgaria, for South-East European Industrial Market Magazine
What were the leading prerequisites for the unveiling of a local edition of the Light + Intelligent Building exhibition specifically in Istanbul? What will the platform carry over from the original concept and what will be new and different?
Besides Europe, Messe Frankfurt holds lighting and building technology fairs on three continents: in Asia, in the Middle East and in North and South America. Depending on the region these events bring together and represent the various aspects of building-services technology.
Continuous innovation is an integral part of the planning, construction, maintenance and further development of buildings and urban infrastructures. Messe Frankfurt brings together and attracts to encounter all relevant players who are looking for or offering marketable solutions to these challenges.

From 2024 Messe Frankfurt is expanding its international portfolio: between 27 and 29 November 2024, Messe Frankfurt Istanbul will be celebrating the debut of Light + Intelligent Building Istanbul. In cooperation with the Turkish Lighting Equipment Manufacturers Association (AGID), the event provides a platform for decorative, architectural and technical lighting, electric lamps, components and accessories, electrical engineering, smart homes and building automation.
Situated at the junction of Europe and Asia, Istanbul offers unparalleled access for international attendees. A two-hour flight radius covers a significant portion of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. This logistical advantage makes it easier for industry professionals from various regions to gather and collaborate.
Istanbul is not just a cultural and historical hub; it`s also undergoing rapid urbanization. With massive ongoing construction projects, there`s a booming demand for smart lighting and intelligent building solutions. This makes the city a fertile ground for showcasing cutting-edge technologies. The demand for smart lighting and building automation in this region is insatiable. From energy-efficient technologies to intelligent IoT solutions, the market is ripe for innovation.
From the original concept, the Istanbul edition will carry over the core principles of fostering innovation, networking, and knowledge exchange within the industry. If you`ve attended Light + Building in Frankfurt, you know the level of professionalism and organization is top-notch. Expect nothing less in Istanbul. Messe Frankfurt brings its tried-and-true formula to ensure that the event runs smoothly and efficiently. Attendees can expect a diverse range of exhibitors, and a comprehensive conference program featuring leading experts.
The Istanbul edition will emphasize regional needs and trends, making it highly relevant for participants. Tailored sessions will focus on the specific challenges and opportunities in the Middle Eastern and South-Eastern European markets.
What are your expectations and Messe Frankfurt`s ambitions for the event, and which will be the main trends and highlights during the premiere trade fair?
We have good expectations for the Istanbul edition of Light + Intelligent Building. Messe Frankfurt aims to establish this event as the premier platform for the smart lighting and building automation sectors in the region. Our ambition is to facilitate significant business opportunities, foster cross-border collaborations, and drive the adoption of new technologies. With a strategic location and a booming market, the potential is enormous.
Key trends and highlights for the premiere trade fair will include the latest in smart lighting solutions, energy-efficient technologies, and intelligent building systems. However, the first edition in Istanbul will be much smaller, as it follows shortly after the Frankfurt show held in March this year. The primary goal for this year`s edition is to introduce the market opportunities to a wider audience and lay the foundation for future growth.
Currently, 75 companies from Türkiye, Bulgaria, Italy, Germany, India, and China have already signed contracts for the first edition. The expectations are to reach around 150 exhibitors by the opening day, including joint stand participants in country pavilions such as China. The organizers are preparing an attractive fringe program for buyers, including the Balkan Light Conference, which will take place on the second and third day of the show. More information on this will soon be available on the website.
How will the new exhibition contribute to the smart lighting and building sector in the region? What guidance would you give to Bulgarian companies that wish to participate in the first show this November?
The new exhibition will significantly contribute to the smart lighting and building sector in the region, Bulgaria included, by creating a dedicated platform for industry stakeholders to connect, exchange ideas, and explore the latest innovations. It will facilitate knowledge transfer, highlight best practices, and promote the adoption of advanced technologies tailored to regional needs.
For Bulgarian companies looking to participate in the first show this November, our guidance would be to take full advantage of the networking opportunities available. To prepare thoroughly by researching potential partners and clients and consider how their solutions can address the unique challenges of the regional market. To participate actively in the conference sessions and panel discussions to gain insights into the latest trends and regulatory developments. Finally, to ensure their exhibition booth is attractive and showcases their most innovative products and services to attract maximum attention from attendees. This is a unique opportunity to expand their business reach and establish a strong presence in the region.
Don`t miss out on this opportunity to be part of something groundbreaking. Join Light and Intelligent Building 2024 in Istanbul for an unforgettable experience.
