EBRD backs EUR 34 million solar push in Southern Romania

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is deepening its support for Romania’s clean energy transition with a financing package of up to EUR 34 million for two major solar power plants in the country’s south. The funding will go to Solar World SRL, RB Solar Energy SRL and Energie Soleil SRL, three newly established Romanian companies created to develop, build and operate the projects.

Combined, the two plants will deliver 189,7 MW of installed capacity. Once operational, they are expected to generate roughly 286,9 GWh of electricity annually, enough to avoid an estimated 118 600 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. The output will contribute meaningfully to Romania’s climate targets and its efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
