CRH acquires aggregates business of Croatia’s Kufner Group

CRH, a global leader in building materials solutions, has acquired the aggregates business of Kufner Group, strengthening its position in the Western Balkans. The transaction includes four strategically located quarries in Eastern and Central Croatia, making CRH the new market leader in the Croatian aggregates industry.

The acquisition excludes Kufner Group’s railway infrastructure and insulation materials businesses, including the associated companies Remont Pruga Matic and Kumal S, which remain under Kufner’s ownership.

Sinisa Mauhar, Managing Director of CRH’s Western Balkans Region, emphasized the importance of the acquisition, stating: “The acquisition of the Kufner Group’s aggregates business demonstrates our commitment to growing our essential materials business in the Western Balkans, supporting the delivery of major infrastructure projects in the region”.
Slaven Kufner, President of the Management Board of Kufner Group, noted the strategic nature of the decision: “Considering various strategic options for the development of the business, the decision to sell the aggregates segment to CRH is of exceptional significance for the future development of the Kufner Group. It will enable us to strengthen our market position and open up new growth opportunities with access to global expertise, best practices, innovations and knowledge”.

Headquartered in Ireland, CRH employs 80 000 people across over 3800 operating locations in 28 countries. The group holds market leadership positions in both North America and Europe. Kufner Group remains a significant player in Croatia’s construction and materials sector. With over 320 employees across seven companies, Kufner has a strong foundation in mineral exploitation, railway infrastructure, and insulation materials.
