Change in leadership for Assembleon
• News • South-East European INDUSTRIAL Мarket - issue 3/2005

Technology leader in SMT placement solutions, Assembleon, announces the retirement of its CEO, Dr. Cor Scholten, and the appointment of his successor Dr. Leon Husson. Heading Assembleon, formerly Philips EMT, during one of the most turbulent periods in the global electronics manufacturing industry, Dr. Scholten has achieved outstanding success in handing over a technologically-advanced, entrepreneurial, and stable company to his successor. Dr. Scholten has focussed in recent months on strengthening corporate presence in Asia, and on appointing widely-experienced technical and commercial managers to take on the task of penetrating the mainstream pick-and-place market with reliable product and excellent processes. As Dr. Scholten bows out as CEO he will remain in an advisory role at Assemblйon until the end of 2005. He is succeeded by Dr. Leon Husson, currently Executive Vice President Consumer Businesses of Philips Semiconductors. A Dutch national, Dr. Husson joined Philips in 1983. His previous experience with the company includes various product marketing roles, and Plant Directorships in the Netherlands and UK. He became a member of the Philips Semiconductors Management Team in 1998, as Managing Director for the Discrete Semiconductors Business Unit, and was appointed to his current role in 2000.
LENZE extends its range of geared motors
Lenze is adding integrated geared motors to its range of explosion-protected gearboxes. Their mounting dimensions are more compact than those of comparable geared motors with IEC motor adapters. Suitable for use in categories 2GD and 3GD, the geared motors are available for temperature class T3. The omission of a motor coupling makes the units compact, torsionally stiff and cost-effective. The new product series is based on the versatile G-motion range featuring helical, shaft-mounted helical, helical-bevel or helical-worm gearboxes, which has already been used successfully in many and varied standard applications. Users are offered an extensive range of integrated motors in the power range from 0.12 to 22 kW. Motors for use in zone 22 (ATEX category 3 for dust) are suitable for both mains and frequency inverter operation and feature built-in thermal contacts or thermistors for motor monitoring. Category 2GD geared motors are fitted with an oil-sight glass. This significantly reduces the time required for commissioning, maintenance or servicing in comparison to oil plugs. Associated benefits include no longer having to remove oil plugs or fiddle with a dip stick to test the oil level. On request, all other product series in the G-motion range can also be supplied with oil-sight glasses.
LENZE Drives ECS for packaging industry
The ECS servo controller system from Lenze combines a high overload capacity with extremely compact designs, making the controllers perfectly well suited to the requirements of the packaging industry, handling technology and robotics. Axis modules are now available with predefined functions for easy and efficient configuration and commissioning. The advantage: only a handful of parameters need to be input to get the controllers ready for operation.
The „Posi and Shaft“ application software saves up to 15 positioning profiles, which can be implemented as absolute, relative or modular (i.e. relative and continuous) positioning, or with a manual fixed speed setting or as a master frequency follower. The ECS variant "Posi and Shaft" comes with the "safe standstill" function and the motor holding brake logic as standard. "Speed and Torque" application software is designed for speed and torque control. The "Motion" variant has been designed for coordinated multi-axis motion with central control. "Safe standstill" and the motor holding brake logic are also included as standard with both of these variants. The ECS servo system operates with a single central power supply module, which provides the supply to all of the axis controllers. The power supply can deliver peak currents up to five times the nominal value. The high overload capacity of all of the system components and the optimised DC bus control enable efficient utilisation of the installed drives and also ensure that the overall setup remains compact.
