Albania announces invitation to tender for the design of cargo port in Durres

Albania‘s Durres port authority opened a call for bids in a ALL 1,45 billion (EUR 9,2 million) tender for a detailed design of the construction project of a new cargo port in the Porto Romano area, about 10 km north of the country‘s largest port of Durres.

All commercial activities of the port of Durres are to be relocated to the new port, leaving only the passenger terminal in operation, the port authority said in a tender notice published by Albania‘s procurement agency. The assignment must be completed within eight months, the port authority added.

Local media reported earlier this year that Albania‘s government has signed an agreement with Emirati multinational real estate development company Emaar for the construction of a marina in the existing port of Durres aimed at attracting tourists in the area. Emaar is expected to invest up to EUR 2 billion in the project that includes also the restoration of the current port area.
